EAST Runcorn MP Mike Amesbury called in to the school
Labour MP Mike Amesbury was very impressed after visiting the children and staff at Windmill Hill. The East Runcorn MP praised the hard work of teachers, parents and pupils following a visit to a school in his constituency. He headed to Windmill Hill Primary School where the Shadow Employment Minister was given a tour by headteacher Paula Newman, spoke to staff and pupils and even got to see a singing performance from some of the kids.
Mike said: “Windmill Hill is one of the most deprived areas of Weaver Vale and the school has a large proportion of pupil premium children and youngsters with SEN needs. “In these financially challenging times for schools it’s a tremendous credit to staff, parents and pupils that Windmill Hill has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. “It was easy to see why too, with the hard work and dedication of staff shining through on my visit, while the children were absolutely fantastic as well.”
Winter Update
Infant Music Festival
In May our KS1 children took part in the Infant Music Festival at The Heath. The theme this year was ‘Caring for Our World’. The songs focussed on helping the environment and the children dressed up as polar bears.
Judaism Workshop
We welcomed Jeremy to our school in May. Jeremy worked with the children and showed them artefacts from the Jewish faith and explained what they are used for. He described all the different celebrations that Jews take part in and what they mean. All the children were very polite and courteous to Jeremy who enjoyed his visit so much that he would like to return!
Year 5 have had a very busy term!
Year 5 completed their aquaponics project with Farm Urban. They are currently enjoying the fruits of their labour and have made: mint chocolate chip cookies, tomato and basil pasta, tomato and basil soup and egg and cress sandwiches. All of the herbs were grown using their produce pod in their classroom. They are shortly giving a presentation at Daresbury Laboratories on the project and discussing their findings.
OBA CSI Afternoon
The Year 5 class took part in a forensic afternoon at OBA. They had the opportunity to look at a crime scene and discuss what could have happened. They all had their finger prints taken and the chance to look at blood splattering. The children each came back with a crime scene booklet, a forensic coverall and CSI disposable shoes.
Kenyon Hall Farm
The Year 5 class visited Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington where they learned about the life cycle of plants to support their lessons in school and had a tractor ride around the farm. They were able to pick some lovely fruit to take home with them. The following day, the children were given pancakes for breakfast covered in a variety of fruit that they saw at the farm – it was delicious!
Good Bye to Mr Phil Binnington & Mr Tony Foy
In July we say goodbye to two very important members of our team. Mr Phil Binnington who has been our Site Manager for several years and Mr Tony Foy, our caretaker. They have spent many lunchtimes retrieving footballs and sometimes shoes from the forest! They have also used their own time to support community events throughout the year. We will miss them both very much.
